Disability | Initiating a Claim
Pearson provides disability coverage at no cost to you if you are unable to work due to a non-work-related illness or injury (this includes childbirth and pregnancy). The Short-Term Disability Policy and Long-Term Disability Program explain how the coverages work. To initiate a claim, you must:
  1. Notify your manager. It is imperative that you stay in contact with your manager throughout your leave.
  2. Initiate a claim with Lincoln Financial, if possible, 30 days prior to your leave, by visiting the portal (first time users must register using the Company Code: Pearson) or by calling toll-free at 1-800-213-7327.
  3. Complete the Claim Intake Authorization Form and give it to your doctor. Please note: Lincoln Financial requires your doctor to provide information about your medical condition. If this information is delayed or cannot be obtained, your STD pay will be delayed or denied.
  4. When you report your claim, make sure you have the following information:
    • Your physician or medical care provider’s name, address, email address, fax and telephone numbers
    • Your manager’s name, telephone number and e-mail address
    • Reason you are out of work (diagnosis/symptoms)
    • Your last day worked, first day absent from work, and anticipated return to work date, if known
Review Filing an STD Claim to ensure that your disability is processed timely. If you have questions about filing a claim, raise a ticket via myHR or send an email to [email protected].
If you would like to take advantage of Parental Leave or FMLA, please follow steps 1 and 2 above.
Information About Serious Illness in the Family Leave
Please note, while Lincoln Financial does not administer Serious Illness in the Family Leave (SIL), you will need to call them to initiate an FMLA claim as SIL runs concurrently with an approved FMLA leave. Please raise a separate case via myHR, after you have received approval from Lincoln Financial, every time you use this benefit (within 3 business days) to ensure your time and pay will be processed accurately.
