As announced late last year, Pearson introduced Surgery Decision Support (SDS) beginning in January. SDS provides confidential assistance and information about the risks, benefits and alternative treatment options associated with these surgeries:
- Hip replacement
- Knee replacement
- Weight loss surgery
- Low back surgery
- Hysterectomy
You must participate in SDS if you or your covered dependent(s), age 18 or older, have a physician-confirmed diagnosis and recommendation for one of the above procedures (emergencies excluded). Not doing so will result in paying a $1,000 penalty at the time your claim is processed.
Remember, you have the final say about the treatment you will receive. The SDS program will not tell you what to do or what doctor to see or use. Its only purpose is to provide information and answers to your questions, so you can make the best, informed choice for you.
Be sure to enroll in Surgery Decision Support at least 30 days before your date of surgery to avoid an additional $1,000 at the time your claim is processed!
